An Old Culture: Mark Lowe

First and foremost I would like to thank the Wilson family and MBA who was responsible for funding and allowing me to go on this trip of a lifetime to Spain. My trip began with a plane ride out of Nashville at 4 A.M. in the morning and ended with a plane ride back to Nashville at 1:30 P.M. During the month that I spent in Spain, so much happened that it is difficult to put it all into words. I arrived in the Paris airport with Jake Macey, another student at MBA, but we immediately parted ways when we were each put into our selective group. After a hectic experience in the airport due to the workers at AirFrance striking, I finally arrived in Madrid during siesta- the time in the day from 2-4 P.M. in which many residents in Spain took a nap. Over the next three days, my group had an orientation in Madrid in which we were allowed to explore the city:During my first exploration with Jake into Madrid, we found an interesting sanitation device known as a public urinal. Although it is a funny photo, this snapshot illustrates the difference in culture between America and Spain: Spanish culture is more open to change than the more reserved Southern American culture that I live in. Again I would like to thank the Wilson family and MBA for allowing me to participate on a Wilson Language grant and expect more posts of my experience soon.
