June 30 - Beijing Day 1: Rett Hooper
We never had a June 29th. Beijing is an interesting city. There is such a great contrast between the nice and the dumpy. The Olympic grounds were awesome, but most other buildings are old and depressing. The streets are lined with small shops and shop owners sitting outside their stores. It smells really bad here because of the bad public restrooms, the sewage, the garbage, and the cigarettes. The food is good here. I can tell its going to get repetitive because the dishes are all similar, but for now it is very tasty. The driving here is insane! No car crashes occur, but cars don’t stop either. Walking is dangerous! I hope I don’t die. This picture was taken of John Thomas doing the Usain Bolt in front of the Bird's Nest.
