I am sorry that I did not start writing earlier, but here I go. Bon!
Today, I arrived in Blois, where I met my host family with whom I will spend the next two weeks. I am very nervous, though my family was extremely welcoming. My sisters are Elisa (19) and Jenna (8), and my brother is Alexis (15). They are all very nice, so though I am nervous, I am content as well.
Before today, my EIL group, New Frontiers, was in Paris for three days. It was truly amazing. Beautiful and full of things to do. I was completely surprised to see just how familiar some of it felt (walking the streets of a big city felt just like being in New York and Chicago), yet just how foreign it all was (if one looks up while walking the streets, the designs of the old buildings stand out and are reminders of the true greatness and history of Paris). As a group we did many things. The first day, we went to the Eiffel Tower, and we ate like kings at a French specialty (foie gras, escargot) bistro. Also, we got to start taking the metro, which is surprisingly beautiful, probably because it's something so different from what I'm used to in Nashville. The second day, we visited the Arc de Triomphe after walking the stretch of the Champs-Elysees. After a brief lunch, we split up and had a race to see which half of the group could navigate their way to the Louvre the quickest. Sadly, my group lost. Even more unfortunate was that the other group lost some members on the speedy trip over, and we weren't able to enter the Louvre. We left with promises that we would return for a full visit of the massive museum. Now it is night on day three, and I am here in Blois, excited about what this homestay holds for me.
I will also take this opportunity to name the other members of my awesome group:
1. McKenzie - Alaksa
2. Rafael - Florida
3. Aaron - California
4. Brooklyn - Utah
5. Peter - Oklahoma
6. Marissa - Maine
7. Brian - Kenya
8. Camilo - Nicaragua
9. Inna - New York
10. Martine - Canada
11. Leslie - Florida
12. Gwen (group leader) - Washington
13. Breeze (group leader) - Vermont
